Hanoi will also issue policies to buy in less-than-10-year-old motorbikes.

Besides, the Hanoi Department of Transport is completing the project of zoning allowed motorcycle areas in accordance with the infrastructure and capacity of public transport with a view to ban motorcycles in inner city districts by 2030.

The city is also weighing the prohibition of motorcycles in certain hours on six streets including Nguyen Trai, Xuan Thuy - Cau Giay, Giai Phong, Nguyen Van Cu, Le Van Luong, Tran Duy Hung - Nguyen Chi Thanh.

Two major criteria for considering which routes are eligible for banning motorcycles are infrastructure and public transport. A street meeting 7/10 points of each of these criteria will be closed for motorcycle traffic.

According to Director of the Hanoi Department of Transport Vu Van Vien, not until 2020 will Hanoi prohibit motorbikes, the city will implement a roadmap to assign zones for motorcycles in accordance with infrastructure and service capabilities of the public transport system, to stop motorcycles circulating in the districts in 2030.

Experts stressed that choosing means of transport is the right of each person, but it must be consistent with the common interests of the society.
