Ho Chi Minh City’s established cooperative relations with Japanese localities have contributed to enriching the friendship between the two countries, said HCM City People`s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan.
At a reception on August 27 for a young parliamentarian delegation from the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan led by member of the House of Representative Matsumoto Yhei, Quan said the Vietnam-Japan traditional friendship is growing steadily in various fields spanning from economics and culture to education and tourism.
Over the past years, Japan has been instrumental in helping the city carry out important infrastructure projects such as East-West Highway and Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route construction.
As of late July 2014, Japan pumped more than US$3.2 billion into nearly 700 projects, becoming one of the city’s leading foreign investors. In the first 7 months of this year, export-import turnover between HCM City and Japan hit US$ 2 billion.
Yhei Matsumoto, in turn, applauded the sound traditional friendship between the two nations which has been upgraded to a strategic partnership with enhanced cooperation in areas like economics, culture, education and transport infrastructure.
The Japanese guest suggested municipal leaders create the best possible conditions for young Japanese parliamentarians to share experiences with the municipal People's Council members and National Assembly (NA) delegation.
