Korea simplifies visa procedures to attract Vietnamese tourists

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relation, the Korean embassy in Vietnam will ease requirements for Vietnamese citizens applying for visa, starting from July 10.

This decision is aimed to improve the strategic cooperation between two countries through exchange programs on various fields and suitable with the developing relationship between Vietnam and Korea. It also helps reduce difficulties for visa applicants due to the complexity of documents and slow review process.

On July 5, the Korean Ambassador to Vietnam along with 15 designated tourist operators in Hanoi have signed the memorandum of understandings (MOU), with a view to increase the Vietnamese tourists to Korea. A day later, the Korean Consul General at Ho Chi Minh city also signed a similar MOU with 20 designated tourist operators in the city.

Therefore, as of July 10, visa processing time for applicants registering through designated tourist operators will be reduced to 5 days for regular tourists, and 3 days for tourist under incentive tour. Besides, requirements will be eased for tourists revisiting Korea, especially with regard to financial proof.

In 2016, the number of Vietnamese tourists travelling to Korea reached 251.402, an increase of 54.5% compared with 2015. For the first 6 months of 2017, the above number is 177.976, up 29.8% in comparison to the same period of last year. Evidently, it shows Vietnam is fast becoming one of the most important market for Korean tourism in South East Asia.

“In addition to expanding applicants qualified for multiple entry visa to Korea and simplifying visa issuance procedures to Vietnamese tourists, Korean Tourism General Department hopes these efforts will make it more convenient for Vietnamese citizens. As such, it is expected that the development of strategic partnership between the two countries will step up in the future. In the coming time, we will put up effort of promoting Korean tourist products, for which Vietnamese tourists will have unforgettable memories when travelling to Korea” – Mr. Jung Chang Wook, Chief Representative of Korean Tourism General Department in Vietnam said.
