Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong arrived in central Da Nang city on July 13, beginning his six-day visit to Vietnam.
On behalf of Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other central and local officials welcomed the Lao delegation.
At the reception, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Tran Tho informed the Lao leader about the local socio-economic situation, poverty elimination efforts and the city’s cooperation with Lao localities.
PM Thongsing Thammavong valued the considerable socio-economic progress attained by Da Nang in recent decades, especially the rapid economic growth during the 30-year doi moi (reform) period which has helped it become a modern and civilised city with increasing standing in Vietnam and the region.
He wished Da Nang would reap greater achievements and hoped it would continue sharing experience and boosting collaboration with Lao localities, contributing to the time-tested friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive affiliation between the two countries.
After leaving Da Nang, the Lao PM will pay working visits to Quang Nam, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Dien Bien and Son La provinces before arriving in Hanoi to meet with leaders of the Vietnamese Party, State and Government on July 17 and 18.
