A ceremony to launch the 2015 communications campaign to use safe helmet was held in Hanoi on September 12 with the participation of more than 4,000 youth and traffic police.
During the ceremony, participants took to street with standard helmets to support a related communications campaign.
The event also included the participants’ march around Hoan Kiem Lake, a contest on road safety, and the massive destruction of 1,000 poor quality helmets.
Besides, Hanoi’s citizens can exchange their substandard helmets for qualified ones at about 20 major streets as part of the campaign.
Addressing the event, President of the Vietnam Youth Federation Nguyen Phi Long said that promoting safe helmet use could reduce head damage and deaths from accidents and is a highlight of his agency’s anti-traffic accident programmes.
Previously, through the campaign, good-quality helmets had been presented to 1,000 local motorbike taxi drivers.
The organisers are also launching a video contest and an array of social network activities.
Last year, the event attracted the participation of 2,000 volunteers nationwide with more than 6,000 good helmets gifted to citizens.
This year’s campaign runs from August 24 to September 25.
