Myanmar marks 67th Independence Day in Hanoi

The Myanmar Embassy in Hanoi recently hosted a banquet at the Melia Hotel to commemorate the 67th anniversary of Myanmar’s Independence Day (1948-2015).

Speaking at the event, Myanmar Ambassador to Vietnam Win Hlaing expressed his belief that the ties between Vietnam and Myanmar have continued to blossom since they were established in 1975.

He expressed his hope that they would further evolve to new heights in the future meeting the interests of both nations for peace and prosperity in the region and the world.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affair Le Hoai Trung in turn expressed his satisfaction with the rapid development of cooperation in all areas since the Myanmar visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in April 2010.

He noted that since the signing of the Joint Statement of cooperation in 12 priority areas during the Prime Minister’s visit bilateral cooperation between the two countries has bloomed.

In 2014, two-way trade between Vietnam and Myanmar expanded by 35% on-year to US$475 million. The figure is expected to reach US$500 million in 2015. Vietnam is now the 8th largest investor in Myanmar with US$513 million invested in 7 projects.
