Album by Vietnamese Ngot band nominated for 2024 Grammy Awards

Ngot's CD was nominated for a Grammy Award for its creative design, the first nomination ever for an album by a Vietnamese band.

The album Gieo (Sowing) by the band Ngot has scored a nomination in the category Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package for the 2024 Grammy Awards, and the nominee is Creative Director Duy Dao, according to the official website of the Grammy Awards, organized annually by the Recording Academy of the United States.

Also nominated in this category are The Collected Works Of Neutral Milk Hotel (artist team Jeff Mangum, Daniel Murphy and Mark Ohe); For The Birds: The Birdsong Project (Jeri Heiden and John Heiden); Inside: Deluxe Box Set (Bo Burnham and Daniel Calderwood); Words & Music, May 1965: Deluxe Edition (Masaki Koike).

Introduced in 1995, the Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package category recognizes the most impressive special edition music album or album box designs.

"The art direction and design for Ngot's album Gieo has just been nominated for the Grammy 2024. I was lucky to be the first Vietnamese nominated and the first designer and art director from Southeast Asia. Thank you, family, friends and the whole team for always working hard with me. Thank you Ngot Band for trusting and being patient with me," said artist Duy Dao right after the official nomination list was announced.

 "The people around me have always been my greatest inspiration and motivation. There will definitely be a longer, fuller and more heartfelt thank you after I calm down," Duy Dao wrote on his personal page.

Below the post, Hoang Phan, a member of the Ngot band, and many friends and artists left comments of praise and congratulations.

In addition to the physical version, which is nominated for a Grammy Award, the album is available on digital music platforms such as YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Anghami, and Amazon Music.

Ngot is a Vietnamese pop-rock band consisting of four members: Vu Dinh Trong Thang (vocals, backing guitar), Phan Viet Hoang (bass), Nguyen Hung Nam Anh (drums) and Hoang Chi Trung (keyboards).

On his own website, Duy Dao describes himself as an multi-award-winning creative director and founder of California-based Studio DUY. He has worked with prestigious clients and famous design projects such as Google, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Logitech, Oppo and Apple Music...

Duy Dao has won prestigious awards such as the Art Directors Club Award (US) and the International Design Award (US). His work has been featured in major publications and exhibited in 16 countries, including the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum (New York).

The 66th Grammy Awards (2024) will take place on February 4, 2024 in Los Angeles, US. The award has 94 categories, most notably Record of the Year, with candidates such as Jon Batiste, Miley Cyrus, Boygenius, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, SZA and Victoria Monét in the official nominations list.

In 2022, Vietnamese-American singer Sangeeta Kaur (Teresa Mai) won the 64th Grammy Award in the category of "Best Classical Solo Vocal Album". Sangeeta Kaur was born Mai Xuan Loan in California to a family of Vietnamese origin. She graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music, Massachusetts with a Master's Degree in Performance Music. She specializes in meditation music, music composition, and music production, and has performed extensively in the US and around the world, winning more than 30 prestigious music awards.
