NZ Foreign Minister welcomed in Hanoi

Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening the comprehensive cooperation partnership with New Zealand, says National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

While receiving visiting NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully in Hanoi on March 26, Hung said that bilateral relations are developing strongly and that both countries need to increase cooperation in the areas of their strengths.

Vietnam and New Zealand should work harder to realise the 2013-2016 programme of action on cooperation in economics, trade, science-technology, agriculture, and education, he said.

Hung expressed his hope New Zealand will support Vietnam in ongoing negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, as well as at other international forums such as the United Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

For his part, FM Mc Cully assured Hung his visit aims to meet New Zealand’s commitment to building a sustainable partnership with Vietnam.

He stressed increasing visit exchanges is a practical way of fostering bilateral relations in all realms, including politics, economics, trade, and investment.

McCully also proposed both sides enhance parliamentarian cooperation to share experience, especially in legislation and supervision.

Murray McCully began a three-day visit to Vietnam on March 25 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
