Party Chief receives new Cuban ambassador

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on January 13 received new Cuban ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz who paid a courtesy visit before beginning his term in Vietnam.

Trong said Vietnam and Cuba need to boost more practical and effective cooperation to put the two countries’ economic, trade and investment cooperation on par with their political relations.

He said he hopes that the Cuban diplomat will make greater contributions to further fostering the traditional friendship, solidarity, mutual trust and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Despite geographical distance, the two countries always support each other in their past struggles for national independence and development, Trong said, reaffirming Vietnam’s consistent policy of supporting the Cuban people’s revolutionary cause and standing shoulder to shoulder with them in the fight for noble objectives and ideals of socialism.

Trong also congratulated Cuba on its achievements during the update of its socio-economic development model and expressed his satisfactory with strengthened’ solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation.

In reply, ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz pledged his utmost efforts to contribute to consolidating Vietnam-Cuba relations and all-round cooperation.
