Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong starts an official visit to the US
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Andrews military airport in Washington D.C at 8am of July 6 (local time), begining his official visit to the US at the invitation of the US administration.
Welcoming the Party leader at the airport were representatives of the US government, Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, numerous Vietnamese people in the US, and diplomats from ASEAN countries in the US.
This is the first time a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam has made a visit to the US.
The visit takes place at an important time as the Vietnam and the US are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
The visit aims to further develop relations between the two countries and deepen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, with a focus on the fields of investment, trade expansion and facilitation, education-training, science-technology and defence-security.
The two sides will also exchange and share views on some international issues and areas of mutual interest.
