Rice exports hit US$2.1 bil

Vietnamese rice exports during the first two weeks of October has exported over 139 tonnes of rice, bringing the total rice export volume so far this year to 4.9 million tonnes valued at over US$2.1 billion.

The price for rice in October is US$458.35 per tonne, a slight increase from US$439.11 per tonne in September.

Vietnam expects to produce 25.48 million tonnes of paddy for all of 2014, of which over 17 million tonnes of paddy, equivalent to 8.5 tonnes of rice, will be shipped abroad.
Without Government interventions to increase temporary rice stocks, the price remained high due to the large volume of rice exported to China via border gates.
