Vietnam brings home more than 1,100 citizens over past week
The returnees will undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine period at government-run centers.
Vietnam has brought home more than 1,100 citizens within a week on July 3-9, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The latest flight reached the home land on July 9, repatriating nearly 300 from Russia. The Vietnamese diplomatic mission in Moscow had made efforts to gather people in different parts of Russia like Vladivostok, Ekaterinburg, and Saint Petersburg to help them fly home.

On July 7, more than 240 Vietnamese people flied home from Taiwan under the support by the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei. The passengers were quarantined upon arrival in Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

On July 5, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines brought 310 nationals from Malaysia to quarantine facilities in the southern city of Can Tho.

Meanwhile, on July 3, a group of 350 people had arrived in Tan Son Nhat International Airport from Australia and New Zealand.

On the same day, more than 200 citizens reached Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Maldives. Vietnamese missions abroad supported their transit before they gathered in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for the repatriation flight.
Passengers in the priority list are children under 18, the elderly, the sick, pregnant women, laborers with expired employment contracts and no job, stranded tourists, and students without dormitories.
A large number of Vietnam’s coronavirus infections are from repatriated citizens.
With an effort to repatriate its citizens amid the spread of the global coronavirus, Vietnam has so far given tickets home to nearly 13,000 citizens.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc earlier this month asked ministries to work out ways to bring home some 14,000 Vietnamese nationals stranded overseas.
