Vietnam claims seven medals at Asian Informatics Olympics 2019

The result reaffirms Vietnam’s quality of high school education in general and the training of gifted students in particular.

All seven Vietnamese students won silver medals at the Asian Informatics Olympiad 2019, local media reproted, citing the Education Quality Assurance Department under the Ministry of Education and Training. 

Up to 660 contestants from 31 countries and territories competed online at the Asian Informatics Olympiad 2019, which was hosted by the Russian Federation.

Of the seven winners, three come from the Natural Sciences Gifted High School of the Hanoi National University. They are 11th graders Bui Hong Duc and Vu Hoang Kien, and 12th grader Nguyen Minh Tung. 

Other candidates are from specialized schools of other provinces, including Thai Xuan Dang (grade 12, Le Quy Don gifted school, Quang Tri province), Hoang Phan Huu Duc (grade 11, Phan Boi Chau gifted school, Nghe An province), Nguyen Minh Quan (grade 12, Hung Yen gifted school, Hung Yen province), Tran Quoc Viet (grade 12, Le Hong Phong gifted school, Nam Dinh province).

Of all the contestants, 201 were qualified prizes and 104 of them were awarded medals, accounting for 51.17%. The Vietnamese delegation ranked eighth with 100% of members winning medals, according to the Education Quality Assurance Department.

The result reaffirms Vietnam’s quality of high school education in general and the training of gifted students in particular.
