Prime Minster Nguyen Tan Dung and President of the Cuban Council of State Raul Castro Ruz have affirmed their determination to consolidate and deepen the ties of traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
They spoke highly of the two nations’ close coordination and reciprocal support at international organizations and multilateral forums to protect their legitimate interests and elevate their prestige in the international arena thus contributing to the building of a more equal and better world.
PM Dung voiced confidence that Cuban people will go ahead with the tremendous achievements recorded over the past 55 years and successfully realize the socio-economic policies adopted at the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) to make greater accomplishments.
The Cuban President used the occasion to thank the Vietnamese Party, State, and people for their good sentiments and valuable assistance for Cuba.
Castro Ruz highlighted Dung’s visit as a great opportunity for strengthening the traditional friendship in the two people’s interests.
The two leaders also applauded the working sessions between ministries as a contribution to the success of the Vietnamese Government leader’s trip.
PM Dung extended an invitation to Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz and President of the Cuban Parliament Esteban Lazo Hermandez to visit Vietnam and his invitation was accepted with pleasure.
After the talks, President Raul Castro Ruz presented the Order of Jose Marti, the Cuban State’s noble decoration to PM Nguyen Tan Dung.
PM Dung announced the Vietnamese grant of five million tons of rice and 100 sets of computers to the Cuban people.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing ceremony of a medium-term economic agenda between the two governments and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on healthcare and agriculture cooperation.
A press release was issued on PM Nguyen Tan Dung's official visit to Cuba which was wrapped up the same day.
Earlier on March 27, PM Dung made a fact-finding tour of a Vietnam-Cuba joint rice production model in Cubancan farm in the western province of Pinar del Rio.
The project covers a total area of nearly 28,000 hectares with an output of 4.58 tonnes per hectare, 1.2 times higher than an average productivity of Cuban farms.
20 Vietnamese experts have conducted more than 300 training courses about the mode in 12 provinces for about 7,000 Cuban officials and farmers.
Vietnam has also provided Cuba with 800 farming machines and equipment.
PM Dung said Vietnam will continue to help Cuba develop agricultural projects in other industrial crops like maize, soybean, coffee and aquaculture.
After Cuba, PM Dung and his delegation left Havana to embark on a visit to Haiti.
