On June 9, at the headquarters of the Government, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR Saleumxay Kommasith.

Welcoming Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith for his first official visit to Vietnam in his new position as Foreign Minister of Laos, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that in the past time, special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos is growing strongly, practically and effectively.
He proposed the two countries work together to realize signed agreements, including the cooperation plan between the two governments for 2016 and the Vietnam-Laos cooperation pact for 2016-2020; maintain regular meetings of the intergovernmental committee to handle emerging issues.
Vietnam would continue providing non-refundable aid for Laos the host leader affirmed and encouraged Vietnamese enterprises to expand their presence in the neighboring country. The PM also said that Vietnam would proactively support Laos to fulfill its ASEAN Chair in 2016 and promote educational cooperation via supporting Lao students in Vietnam.
For his part, Minister Saleumxay Kommasith expressed his delight to witness the development in the bilateral ties and thanked Vietnam’s support for Laos in national building and fulfillment of the ASEAN Chair. The guest briefed the host leader about his recent talks with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh in which the two ministries agreed on ways to realize the signed agreements. He also pledged to do his utmost to cement and deepen the bilateral ties.
Foreign Ministers Saleumxay Kommasith expressed his pleasure by the rapid development and effectiveness of Vietnam-Laos cooperation. The special solidarity ties between Viet Nam and Laos have been nurtured by previous generations of leaders and flourished, he confirmed that in his position as Foreign Minister, he will do his best to further strengthen special traditional and friendly relations with Vietnam.
