Vietnam parliament begins month-long sitting; public debt, land issues in spotlight
Public debt and land issues will be put at the center of attention during the meeting which will last until mid-June.
Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) has today begun a month-long gathering with public debt and land issues put at the center of attention.
The NA’s 7th meeting of the 14th legislature is expected to last for 20 days from May 20 to June 16 with discussions on the implementation of policies on planning, managing, and using of land in urban areas from the enforcement of Law on Land in 2013 to 2018.
Other debates would focus on the use of loans, the management of public debt, and legal infringements in managing state capital and assets as well as in the privatization of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), local media has reported.
During the meeting, the lawmakers will spend 12 days to review and approve seven draft laws, two resolutions, and give comments on nine draft bills, including the amended Law on Education, Law on Architecture, Law on Tax Management, Law on Public Investment, Law on Criminal Execution, and Law on Prevention of Harmful Effects of Alcohol.
The meeting will cover some interpellations which will take place in two and a half day.
The first day of the meeting began with the opening remarks by the NA’s Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the government’s reports on the socio-economic development plans and state budget in 2018 and the first months of 2019, as well as reports on recommendations by voters and the people.
The afternoon working session will focus on the state budget in 2017, the additional projects to the public investment plans for 2016-2020, the amendment of Law on Insurance Business, and Law on Intellectual Property Rights.
