Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang in Beijing on April 8, stressing his country treasures its friendship and cooperation with China.
Meeting with Premier Li Keqiang, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong congratulated China on its important socio-economic achievements and affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates China’s significant assistance during its past struggle for national liberation and current socialism building.
He briefed the host on the outcomes of his talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping, asking the two Governments to direct the full and effective implementation of agreements and common perceptions between leaders of the two Parties and States to enhance their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Premier Li Keqiang likewise congratulated Vietnam on its considerable attainments and voiced his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Southeast Asian country will reap greater accomplishments in the time to come.
The two leaders shared the view that the intensification of relations, political trust between their leaders and friendship between their peoples are of the utmost importance to each country’s development and benefits as well as regional peace, stability, cooperation and development.
They exchanged in-depth opinions on steering the implementation of agreements and common perceptions of the countries’ leaders and agreed to bolster the stable, balanced and sustainable development of economic, trade and investment cooperation and increase comprehensive collaboration between their localities.
The two agreed that Vietnam and China will carry out agreements on their shared land border and the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues. They will effectively utilise the Government-level negotiation mechanism on Vietnam-China border and territorial issues while working together to manage disputes, settle arising matters satisfactorily, maintain peace and stability at sea, speed up result-oriented negotiations to work out appropriate measures addressing sea-related issues and boost cooperation in the waters off the mouth of the Tonkin Gulf.
On the occasion, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong conveyed to Premier Li Keqiang an invitation to visit Vietnam from Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Meeting with Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Zhang Dejiang, the Vietnamese Party leader said as the two countries step up the building of socialist States ruled by law, it is critical for their parliaments and parliamentary bodies to tighten practical and effective exchange and cooperation.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said he supports the National Assembly of Vietnam and the NPC in expanding delegation exchanges and information and legislative experience sharing.
Chairman Zhang Dejiang described the Vietnamese delegation’s visit as a substantial contribution to the stable and healthy development of relations between the two Parties and States, ultimately furthering the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
He said their traditional friendship nurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong and other leaders is a precious asset that both Vietnam and China need to treasure and consolidate.
He also congratulated Vietnam on the successful organisation of the 132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132).
The two leaders concurred that both sides need to exert all efforts to strengthen political trust between the two Parties and States through high-ranking visits and candid discussions of opinions.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong thanked the NPC for its active contributions to the success of the IPU-132.
At the meeting, he also sent National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s invitation to visit Vietnam to Chairman Zhang Dejiang, who accepted the invitation with pleasure.
