Vietnam patients increasingly satisfied with medical services: Survey

Vietnam’s average patient satisfaction index (PSI) in 2018 was based on a survey of more than 7,500 in-patients and their caregivers.

The PSI 2018 showed positive improvement to 4.04/5, with the approval of 80.8% of the patients, compared to respective 3.98/5 and 79.6% in 2017, local media cited the Ministry of Health’s survey.

The 2018 survey was conducted at 60 public hospitals in 23 provinces and cities nationwide and announced by the Ministry of Health in coordination with the Vietnam Initiative at a workshop in Hanoi on May 30.

Director of the Medical Services Administration under the Ministry of Health Luong Ngoc Khue said the PSI 2018 was based on a survey of more than 7,500 in-patients and their caregivers.

Among the hospitals, 13 were rated as 'very good' (21.7%), 26 rated as 'good' (43.3%) and the remaining 21 received 'fair' rating (35%), Khue added.

He stressed that compared to the survey results of nearly 3,000 inpatients in 29 public hospitals in 2017, the PSI
2018 improved positively. This is an encouraging result in the context that the number of hospitals surveyed in 2018 doubled that in the 2017 survey.

Khue said the survey results were relatively consistent with hospital quality, adding that the survey of patient satisfaction will be implemented in hospitals monthly and quarterly.
