Vietnam ready to share economic reform experience with DPRK: Party chief
Kim Jong Un praised Vietnam’s reform achievements and affirmed the visit would deepen trust and cooperation, urging both sides to implement agreements for more substantive ties.
THE HANOI TIMES — General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) To Lam said in Pyongyang on October 9 that Vietnam is ready to share its experience in economic reform , external engagement and socio-economic management with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

He made the statement during talks with General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs Kim Jong Un, as part of his three-day state visit to the DPRK.
The two leaders discussed national development, cooperation priorities and international issues of mutual concern. They reaffirmed their determination to deepen traditional friendship and open new prospects for collaboration in culture, tourism, education, healthcare and information.
Kim Jong Un warmly welcomed General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation, noting that the visit coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and holds special significance for both nations.
He affirmed that the visit would help strengthen mutual understanding, political trust and cooperation between the two Parties and peoples.
Kim Jong Un praised Vietnam’s achievements during nearly four decades of Doi moi (Renewal) and expressed interest in learning from Vietnam’s experience in economic reform and governance.
He welcomed Vietnam’s proposals to expand cooperation in culture, education and Party building, emphasizing the DPRK’s readiness to deepen practical collaboration.
He called on relevant agencies of both countries to implement the agreements reached during the visit, aiming to advance bilateral relations to a new and more substantive stage.
Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue mechanisms, expand delegation exchanges and enhance coordination at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the ASEAN Regional Forum.
At the end of the talks, General Secretary To Lam presented Kim Jong Un with a photo book titled “Everlasting Friendship between Vietnam and the DPRK,” symbolizing the long-standing solidarity between the two nations.

This is the first state visit by a Vietnamese Party chief to the DPRK in 18 years.
