Vietnam’s economy surges 8.2% in Q3, among fastest growth rates in over a decade

The implementation of the two-tier local government model, issuance of Politburo's key resolutions and celebrations of the 80th National Day are major boosters for Vietnam's economy in Q3/2025.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s economy grew a strong 8.2% in the third quarter of 2025, one of the fastest rates in more than a decade, driven by strong macroeconomic policies and nationwide celebrations marking the 80th National Day, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported on October 6.

This was the second-highest quarterly growth rate since 2011, trailing only the 14.4% surge in Q3 2022 when Vietnam reopened after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Industry and construction led the recovery, rising 9.5%, followed by services at 8.6% and agriculture, forestry and fisheries at 3.7%. Together, they accounted for nearly half of overall GDP growth.

Final consumption jumped 7.8%, contributing nearly 60% to growth, while asset accumulation rose 9%. Exports of goods and services increased 18.3% and imports climbed 18.5%.

During January-September of 2025, Vietnam’s GDP increased 7.8%, the second-highest rate since 2011 after the 9.4% in the same period of 2022.

The agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector grew 3.8%, the industrial and construction sector climbed 8.7%, and services advanced 8.5%.

GSO Director Nguyen Thi Huong said that the agriculture sector remained stable despite storms and floods thanks to timely disaster response and recovery measures.

She noted that key industries such as manufacturing and construction recorded strong gains, providing vital momentum for the economy, while trade and tourism benefited from surging domestic demand and holiday spending.

According to Huong, Vietnam is the only economy that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has upgraded in its growth forecast to 6.7% for 2025. The World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also issued optimistic projections of 6.6% and 6.5%, respectively, higher than the regional average.

“The positive outlook from international organizations reflects Vietnam’s breakthrough policies to unlock growth potential,” Huong said.

She attributed the results to the Government’s rapid implementation of the two-tier local administration model, institutional reforms, stronger decentralization, and decisive execution of key Party resolutions on science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and global integration.

At the same time, activities celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) have inspired national pride and motivated people to strive for the country’s socio-economic goals.
