Vietnam youth gears up for a greener future

The event sought to equip Vietnamese youth with the skills and opportunities to work together and take an active role in advancing the green economy and supporting a sustainable transition.

Over 300 young people from different universities, organizations, and communities across Vietnam gathered at the University of Transport Technology at Hanoi to discuss various areas of sustainability comprising green jobs in the circular economy, energy transition, carbon credit, and green transportation.

Organized by the Vietnam Youth Advisory Board (VYAB) as part of the EU Green Diplomacy Weeks 2024 in ASEAN on December 7, 2024, the “Towards a Greener Youth Force” event aimed to empower Vietnamese youth to collaborate and actively prepare themselves to participate in the green economy and sustainable transition.

“The EU-ASEAN Green Diplomacy Week showcases our regional and global engagement in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. This specific initiative in Vietnam today highlights the critical importance of green jobs, green skills, and a green workforce in driving this transformation,” Gonzalo Serrano de la Rosa, Deputy Head of Cooperation, European Union Delegation to Vietnam said during the event.

The EU Green Diplomacy Week is one of the EU’s global campaigns to promote cooperation on climate change and inspire meaningful action. This annual event has evolved into a significant occasion where the EU and its Member States host a series of events worldwide, fostering dialogue and collaboration on climate issues.

These events serve as a platform to showcase successful sustainability initiatives and motivate further green actions

“The event aimed to expand career opportunities for young people in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and green technology. At the same time, the event promoted action to implement climate adaptation plans, creating more green jobs for young people,” Pham Ngoc Anh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Youth Advisory Board added.

The event featured experts from the Ministry of Labour, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Nuoa.io Startup, and the University of Transport Technology in an engaging discussion on how youth can find their own green career pathways and green their current jobs.

“Regardless of any profession, every action when we think about environmental protection, think about sustainable development, we have done green action,” said Dr. Dao Phuc Lam, Head of Innovation Department, University of Transport Technology.
