VN shares vision on agriculture in Davos

Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh attended a session on establishing a global agenda on agricultural development in the framework of the World Economic Forum 2014 in Davos.

Deputy PM Minh affirmed the agriculture sector's pioneering role in the country’s economic development, especially during difficult times.

In his recent New Year message, PM Nguyen Tan Dung has asserted the strategic role of agricultural restructure towards improved added values and a sustainable development in line with the construction of new rural areas, Deputy PM stressed.

He highlighted the country’s efforts and future plans to develop agriculture sustainably and effectively, particularly forming hi-tech agriculture-industry-service complexes which are closely connected to farmers as well as sustainable multi-functional agricultural production models.

The Government official valued practical supports provided by international development organizations and effective investment that foreign businesses pumped into in agriculture, emphasizing the right time to combine these sources to realize the country's agricultural potentials.

The public-private cooperation with the participation of multi-national corporations will make important contributions to introduce Viet Nam’s agricultural products to the world.

Socially, the cooperation is the best way to implement combined investment to enable Vietnamese farmers to take part in the global value chain, and also the most practical measure to realize economic, social and environmental goals in line with the new vision for agriculture, Deputy PM Minh said.

The Government of Viet Nam commits to be a pioneer in the program ‘New Vision for Agriculture’ to promote the country’s advantages, play a pro-active role in ensuring food security, eradicating hunger, reducing poverty and developing sustainably in the world, Deputy PM Minh asserted.
