First triumph of Vietnam People's Air Force marked

The historic victory made by the Vietnam People`s Air Defence - Air Force on August 5, 1964 left many invaluable lessons about the spirit of vigilance and readiness to fight for national independence.

A ceremony honouring the 50th anniversary of the first triumph of the Vietnam People's Air Defence - Air Force in the resistance war against American imperialism was held in Hanoi on August 5.
 
Air defence-air force of different generations reviewed the unforgettable memories of the first triumph 50 years ago. To conduct a large-scale air raid in the north, American imperialists deployed 64 aircraft to attack many areas of northern provinces-Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh and Quang Binh.
In the high combative spirit, the Vietnamese army and people resolutely combated, shooting down 8 planes, notching up the first resounding victory over American imperialists.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Phuong Minh Hoa, Commander of the Vietnam People's Air Defence - Air Force highlighted the first triumph as invaluable lessons of the fighting spirit which showed combined strength of the air defence-air force in the fight against the US.
Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, Chairman of the Vietnam People’s Army’s General Department of Politics called on the force to reinforce political firmness and heighten vigilance as well as combative spirit and determination to defeat any aggressive enemies.
