The man who found the giant mosquito said, on the morning of September 9, while sitting in a coffee shop on Tran Nhan Tong Road, he heard a buzzing sound from a distance and saw a creature perched on his shirt.

Thinking that it was a bee, the man flicked off the creature from his shirt and it fell to the ground. At the first look, he thought it was a damselfly but then he saw that it was shaped like a mosquito.

The man called to others to check the creature and all of them agreed that it was a mosquito; its legs were about 10 cm long.

Mr. Lai Van Hai, Director of the Center for Preventive Medicine of Dong Hoi City, said through a preliminary examination and compared with mosquito specimens, he could confirm that it was a mosquito but he was not sure of the species because experts at the center had never seen it before.

Hai said he was planning to transfer the sample to a laboratory.
