Hanoi willing to cooperate with Germany in sustainable agricultural development

Hanoi wants to access modern technologies from Germany, especially agricultural technologies.

Hanoi always stands ready to cooperate with Germany in sustainable agricultural development, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy said while hosting Hans-Joachim Fuchtel, Parliamentary State Secretary at German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Hanoi on August 23.

Briefing the guest on Hanoi’s socio-economic development, Quy said that Hanoi has an area of ​​over 3,350 km2, with a population of nearly 10 million, an average economic growth of 8.5% per year, and GDP per capita equivalent to US$4,000.

Agriculture still occupies an important position in the economic structure of Hanoi with 155,000 hectares of agricultural land, yielding 1.1 million tons of food per year. However, low farming productivity and food safety and hygiene are among the many difficulties and challenges that Hanoi is facing, Quy added.

As food safety and hygiene has been given top priority to by the city, local authorities have enhanced training courses and communication to raise public awareness of the issue, as well as control input material quality, Quy said.

He stressed Hanoi wants to access modern technologies from Germany, especially agricultural technologies, wishing  that Hans-Joachim Fuchtel would become a bridge to help German businesses seek investment projects in Hanoi in the field of food and agriculture in the time ahead.

For his part, Han Joachim Fuchtel said food hygiene and safety is an important issue which many cities care about. Germany has many institutes studying food hygiene and opening summer training courses related to the issue.

Fuchtel suggested Hanoi send its staff to attend training courses in Germany, and study advanced technologies of its twining states Germany.

The Hanoi official expressed his hope that besides food safety and hygiene, Hanoi and Germany will promote cooperation in other fields, thus strengthening the relations between Hanoi and German localities, and Vietnam and Germany as a whole.
