Khai Thai chicken eggs trademarked to boost rural value and traceability

The trademark registration provides an international classification system for Khai Thai chicken eggs to enhance brand protection and product traceability.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has granted collective trademark rights to Khai Thai chicken eggs to enhance brand protection, product traceability, and rural development through organic poultry farming.

The move is part of Hanoi's efforts to protect local specialties and enhance rural branding.

The Phu Xuan Agricultural Cooperative, located in Khai Thai Commune, Phu Xuyen District, is asked to register the collective trademark.

The trademark registration falls under Classes 29 (animal-derived food products) and 35 (trading services) of the Nice Agreement, which provides an international classification system for goods and services.

The Phu Xuan Cooperative is therefore responsible for developing legal documents, management tools, and enforcement systems to ensure the trademark is used properly following Vietnam's intellectual property laws.

The trademark must reflect the cooperative’s and the local community’s development goals, reinforcing product quality under the “Khai Thai Chicken Eggs” brand.

Authorities have warned that misuse of the 'Khai Thai' name, including its use for private interests or unauthorized transfers or changes to certification or geographical indication formats, may result in the revocation of naming rights.

Nguyen Trong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Phu Xuyen District People's Committee, said that the move paves the way for Khai Thai eggs to gain wider market recognition. "It also facilitates production-consumption linkages with businesses and distribution systems inside and outside the capital," he said.

Khai Thai is renowned for its clean and organic chicken production methods.
