Lacquer painting exhibition celebrates Hanoi artists

The painting exhibition is a tribute to three decades of paintings by the renowned Vietnamese couple of artists, Trinh Tuan and Cong Kim Hoa.

When it comes to painting in Hanoi, the artist couple Trinh Tuan and Cong Kim Hoa are probably names everyone knows. Notorious for their vibrant lacquer works, they are also dedicated educators. Artist Trinh Tuan currently teaches at the University of Industrial Fine Arts, while artist Cong Kim Hoa passionately nurtures the artistic talents of local children.

To celebrate the significant contributions of these two artists to Hanoi's fine art scene, the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) is hosting a lacquer painting exhibition titled "Like Layers of Alluvium," which runs until April 15.

According to the event's organizers, the exhibition embodies love, passion, and aesthetic values, and features nearly 100 works that trace the artistic evolution of Trinh Tuan and Cong Kim Hoa.

The exhibition unfolds like a slow-motion movie, revisiting their creative journey and their deep connection to lacquer, a medium that symbolizes not only their shared love for each other but also their love for nature and Hanoi - the city that nurtured their growth.

The two artists, who have been together since their university days, have dedicated more than thirty years of their youth to fostering the passion for lacquer art in generations of students and art lovers.

While their works have frequently been featured in large-scale exhibitions both nationally and internationally, this is the first time their entire body of work has been presented in a thematic exhibition in Vietnam.

This collaboration inspires fellow artists and provides the Hanoi public with a coveted opportunity to admire these masterpieces of lacquer art.

Throughout the exhibition, there will also be a series of educational events, including art talks, exhibition tours, and workshops, aimed at bringing art closer to the public.

The exhibition is open to the public daily until April 15 at B1 Floor - R3, Vincom Mega Mall Royal City, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi.
