National Election Council ratifies 499 elected deputies for 15th National Assembly

The general election ended in success and remains a truly festive occasion for the people, Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue has said.

The National Election Council has ratified the list of 499 elected deputies for the 15th National Assembly (NA) for the 2021-2026 tenure, in which four were self-nominated.

NA Secretary General Bui Van Cuong gave the remarks at a press conference today [June 10].

According to Cuong, on the election day on May 23, voters elected 500 deputies for the 15th NA. However, in the subsequent eligibility verification process, the National Election Committee concluded that one elected representative is not qualified as a NA deputy.

In the list of elected deputies, 194 were nominated from central agencies, 301 from provinces/cities and four are independent.

After the announcement of the election result, the National Election Council and Election Committees of all levels are poised to receive complaints about the result, if any, and expected to resolve such issues within 30 days.

Voters in Hanoi have elected 29 deputies for the 15th NA, in which male representatives account for nearly 76% of the total.

At the 7th meeting session of the National Election Council held this morning [June 10], Chair of the NA and the National Election Council Vuong Dinh Hue said the election ended in success, which remained “a truly festive occasion for the people”.

The voter turnout in the general elections was reported at 99.57%, or 68.7 million out of the total of 69 million voters, higher than the rate recorded in the previous elections, which were over 98%.
