New head appointed at Party’s Commission for Popularization and Education

The Commission for Popularization and Education is an advisory body of the Party Central Committee in the work of Party building on politics, thought and morality as well as the Party's views and policies in the fields of propaganda, political theory and Party history.

The Poliburo has assigned Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia to be head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Popularization and Education.

Nghia is now Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army General Political Department.

Speaking at the decision announcement ceremony taken place in Hanoi on February 19, Nghia said he has experienced in the army for 42 years, growing up from a training assistant to a leader. “The leading position of the Commission for Popularization and Education is a great honor but a very heavy responsibility.”

He said he always memorizes and keeps in mind his oath of honor as being a serviceman that “being absolute loyal to the Party and the people, fulfilling all missions and weathering all difficulties.”

“I will inherit the Party’s cause and thoroughly grasp the functions and tasks of opularization and education in the new era to deserve the trust of the Party of State,” Nghia said.

Nghia takes over the position of Politburo member Vo Van Thuong, who was assigned to be standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat at the 13th National Party Congress.

Nghia, 59, was born in the southern province of Tien Giang. He used to be member of the Party Central Committee in the 12th and 13th tenures.

From 2012 up to now, he has held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Political General Department of the People's Army of Vietnam.

The Commission for Popularization and Education is an advisory body of the Party Central Committee in the work of Party building on politics, thought and morality as well as the Party's views and policies in the fields of propaganda, political theory, Party history, journalism, publishing, culture, arts, external information, science and technology, education and training, health, sports and population.
