Vietnam speeds up ODA disbursements

The National Steering Committee for ODA and Preferential Loans on February 3 met with six development banks to assess and devise a plan to accelerate ODA-funded projects and programmes for the upcoming year.

The six banks included the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank (WB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Korea Eximbank, KfW-Germany and AFD-France.

According to a committee report, Vietnam attracted total ODA and preferential loans of more than US$4.362 billion in 2014. Over 70% of the funds were used to develop infrastructure

Japan disbursed the most ODA at US$1.773 billion, followed by the WB at US$1.386 billion and ADB at US$1.058 billion.

Some large-scale projects that contributed to a much improved disbursement rate in 2014includeda project to construct a passenger terminal at the Noi Bai International Airport, an infrastructure project in the Mekong River Delta and a project at the O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant.

To boost the efficiency of using ODA and preferential loans and disbursement in 2015 –  state management agencies representatives, project managers and donors have agreed  to hold regular meetings to more timely deal with problem areas.
