Vietnamese-Korean musical for kids to debut in August

The musical is a meaningful gift from Korean and Vietnamese artists for Vietnamese children on the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The musical "A Kid of Goblins", a collaboration between the Vietnamese Youth Theater and the SangsangMaru Theater of South Korea, will be premiered in early August.

The project is part of the "Vietnam-Korea Cultural Exchange Program 2022" to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea (1992-2022).

According to outstanding Vietnamese artist Si Tien, Director of the Youth Theater, the musical has been staged by Korean theater experts, directors, musicians, choreographers, actors, and artists from these two theaters in the last two years, from 2022 to 2023.

"The play is staged according to the musical standards that are very popular in Korea and around the world. Exciting songs are composed by Korean musicians and performed with Vietnamese lyrics by famous Vietnamese singers, promising a colorful musical party for children," he said.

The musical will premiere at 8 pm on August 4 and 5 at the Youth Theater in Hanoi, along with educational exhibitions, souvenir photos, and gifts related to the play for children and young audiences.

Based on the short story by Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf (1858-1940), the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, "The Child of Goblins" tells the story of Leah, a missing child in the forests of the Troll elves.

The legend has it that, there is a deep enmity between trolls and humans that makes them never live near each other. The sudden appearance of a human child caused a controversy between the trolls and the humans. Through many conflicts and differences, but with Troll's very "human" love, Leah finally became a member of the goblin family.

The musical aims to praise motherly love, the sacred affection between family members. It also brings a meaningful message to young audiences: "Just open your heart and walk through the differences, everyone can build a warm family."
