VN becomes UNESCO World Heritage Committee member

Viet Nam officially became a member of the 21-member World Heritage Committee of the UNESCO.

The news was announced yesterday (local time) at the 19th General Assembly of the member states of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
 

The event drew the participation of representatives from 160 countries and territories.

It is a great honor of Viet Nam as the World Heritage Committee is one of the most important bodies of the UNESCO, said Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Cultural Heritage Association Dang Van Bai.

After 26 years making positive participation and contributions, Viet Nam won the UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s membership.

The Southeast Asian country joined the Convention in 1987. It is home to seven cultural and natural heritage recognized by the UNESCO.
