Blazing heat ends, heavy rain to refresh Hanoi from May 20

Hanoi will see showers and thunderstorms with strong wind. The showers will last up to one week, i.e. until May 26.

It is predicted that the blazing heat wave attacking Hanoi over the past week will end on May 20 afternoon and the city will see heavy rain, even thunderstorms, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

Currently, the continental cold high pressure in the north of Vietnam is being reinforced, compressed and moved to low pressure at about 25-27 degrees to the south.

The NCHMF forecast that due to impact of the low pressure, it is compressed from May 20 afternoon to May 21 night, in Vietnam’s northern and northern central provinces, there will be widespread rain, with an average rainfall of 30-60mm/24 hours, even over 80mm/24 hours in some places.

The center warned that there will appear even strong thunderstorms, in which whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong winds may hit some northern provinces. The disaster risk warning will be at level 1.

Hanoi will see showers and thunderstorms with strong wind. The showers will last up to one week, i.e. until May 26, the NCHMF predicted.

In the past few days, scorching heat attacked Hanoi with temperature surging to 40-42 degrees Celsius.

The NCHMF’s experts said that as May is still the transition period, there is a mix of hot and cold waves, so extreme weather such as tornadoes, hail and strong wind in the thunderstorm may occur.

Another hot wave will likely affect the northern and central regions later this month, but they will not last long or be too harsh, said the forecasting center.
