Hanoi official called for faster progress on judiciary buildings, facilities

The request came as agencies complained of insufficient facilities for storing evidences during a judiciary meeting.

HanoiTimes — Standing Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen asked for speeding up facilities and buildings for judiciary agencies as per the approved plans, with special attention to evidence storages.

She made the request at the meeting held on December 4 by the judiciary reform committee under Hanoi Party Committee to review the works in 2020 and tasks for 2021.
Nguyen Hai Trung, Director of Hanoi Police, said the biggest challenges are insufficient facilities for detaining suspects and storing evidence, and unsatisfactory speed on verification of denunciations and crime reports.
Sharing the opinion, Le Xuan Hong, head of civil judgement enforcement department of Hanoi, urged the city to provide funding to build a shared evidence storage to be used by both police and civil enforcement agencies.
“The headquarter of the civil judgement enforcement department is based at Ha Dong District, while the evidence storage is situated Long Bien District, 30km away from each other. The evidence includes illegal drugs and there have been reports of losses,” Hong said.
There were a number of positive improvements in the judiciary sector – including the fact that the rate of detainment that lead to criminal trials reaching 99.87% in 2020, up 0.27% compared to 2019, and timely prosecution reaching 100%, according to the report delivered by Phi Minh Hai, deputy head of the internal affairs committee under Hanoi Party Committee.
The application of information technology into judiciary works have been more intensive, leading to higher effectiveness and meeting the demands of judiciary reforms.
Different agencies and sectors have been well-coordinating in handling major high-profile corruption and mismanagement cases under the special supervision of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, Hai said.
The results of civil judgment execution have exceeded the assigned quotas, with the rate of closed cases reaching 80.64% (against the set target of 80%), he continued.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Tuyen said the work motto of the city in 2021 is “Discipline, responsibility, action, creativity, and growth,” stressing that the judiciary sector must strive to carry out reforms and ensure security and order in the city, especially during the all-important 13th National Party Congress early next year, the Tet (traditional Lunar New Year) holiday, the election of deputies to the 15th-tenure National Assembly and election of representatives to the People’s Council for the term 2021-2026.
Tuyen also urged for efforts against wrongful verdicts and overlooking of crimes, minimize the incidents where a verdict has to be annulled or amended, and better the handling of criminal reports.
