Six Hanoi scientists listed among world's best

The scientists named in the ranking are specialized in a variety of fields.

Six scientists from Vietnam National University-Hanoi (VNU-HN), the Hanoi University of Public Health, and the Hanoi Medical University, along with seven other Vietnamese working in the country have been listed among the world's best scientists by Research.com, a reputable academic ranking website.

The group of six consists of Nguyen Dinh Duc, Le Hoang Son, Pham Hung Viet, Tu Binh Minh, Hoang Van Minh, and Tran Xuan Bach. Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc was named in the engineering and technology category. Professors Viet and Minh made it to the environmental science category while Le Hoang Son entered the category of computer science. Professor Hoang Van Minh of the Hanoi University of Public Health is the first scientist in the field of social sciences and humanities, while Tran Xuan Bach of the Hanoi Medical University is the only Vietnamese named in the medical category.

Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc is one of Vietnam's leading scientists in the field of mechanics and composite materials. He has published more than 300 scientific works, including 200 articles in prestigious international journals. He has been ranked among the 100,000 most influential scientists in the world for four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022.

Dr. Le Hoang Son is known as a talented young scientist with highly applied research works in the field of computer science. Among them, there are many research projects applied in leading countries in science and technology, including the US, Italy, and Germany. Son has published more than 180 papers and articles in foreign journals. He is also listed in the top 10,000 excellent scientists in the world for four straight years (from 2019 to 2022), and is given the "Rising Star" badge - an excellent scientific star in the world in 2022.

Dr. Pham Hung Viet is the Director of the Key Laboratory of Analytical Technology for Environmental Testing and Food Safety. He has published more than 100 papers and articles and holds many patents.

Dr. Tu Binh Minh is a scientist in the field of chemistry. In just two years, 2019 and 2020, he has published more than 20 works in prestigious international journals. In 2022, Minh is also among the most influential scientists in the world.

Prof. Hoang Van Minh, Rector of Hanoi University of Public Health, has more than 25 years of experience in medical science, economic research, and medical statistics. He has led about 20 national scientific research projects in cooperation with universities and research institutes in the US, UK, Sweden, and Switzerland. Minh has published over 160 scientific articles in international scientific journals, many of which have been successfully applied in practice and highly valued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health for the development of the healthcare sector.

Tran Xuan Bach, Ph.D., became the youngest associate professor in Vietnam in 2016 at the age of 32. Bach has more than 300 articles in highly regarded international journals on global health sciences. In 2022, he is the only Vietnamese scientist in the top 10 scientists (ranked third) with the "Rising Star" badge.

The others are Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc from Duy Tan University, Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu from Phenikaa University. Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc is in the Construction Management category and Prof. Hieu is in the materials science category.

Meanwhile, five Vietnamese scientists have been listed in the mechanical and aerospace engineering category. They are Nguyen Xuan Hung and Phung Van Phuc of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; Nguyen Thoi Trung of Van Lang University; Thai Hoang Chien of Ton Duc Thang University; and Bui Quoc Tinh of Tokyo Institute of Technology.

The ranking is based on the D-index (Discipline H-index), which includes papers and citations for a given discipline. It was compiled by analyzing data from 166,880 scientists in 24 fields on the Microsoft Academic Graph.

The Vietnamese scientists were ranked in seven fields, including computer science, engineering and technology, environmental science, materials science, mechanical and aerospace engineering, medicine, and social sciences and humanities.

Last year, Research.com also named ten Vietnamese scientists in its list of the world's top scientists.

Before that, ten Vietnamese were named in the list of the world's top 10,000 scientists published by the US-based PLOS Biology Journal last October, including Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc and Dr. Le Hoang Son from the VNU-HN.
