Hanoi: 27 Covid-19 patients cured and discharged from hospital

All 27 people have tested negative for the new coronavirus at least twice in a row, meeting the criteria set by the Ministry of Health for their discharge.

Twenty-seven Covid-19 patients, including eight foreigners, were discharged from the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases on March 30, VnExpress reported.

This marked Vietnam’s largest single-batch release of Covid-19 cases to date. Among the discharged people is Nguyen Hong Nhung, 26, identified as Patient 17, the first confirmed Covid-19 patient in Hanoi.

"Patient 17" marked the second phase of infection in Vietnam on March 6 after the nation had gone 22 straight days without recording any new cases.

A 25-year-old Vietnamese tour guide (Patient 39) who was among the discharged people said his physical and mental health improved after more than three weeks at the hospital.

Pham Ngoc Thach, director of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district, said all 27 people have tested negative for the new coronavirus at least twice in a row, meeting the criteria set by the Ministry of Health for their discharge.

There remain 60 Covid-19 patients, including three in severe condition, undergoing treatment at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases.

At the time of writing, Vietnam has confirmed 194 Covid-19 cases, of which 55 have been cured and 139 under treatment. Those in severe and critical condition have shown positive signals.

The majority of the currently active cases are Vietnamese returnees from Europe and the US and foreigners coming from those regions.
