The Hanoi traditional craft village tourism festival 2016 was officially opened at Hanoi`s Imperial Citadel of Thang Long on September 29. This event is considered as a "leverage" to develop traditional craft village tourism.
This year's festival will be organised at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long from September 29 to October 2.
Hanoi traditional craft village tourism festival 2016 is a part of activities to celebrate 62nd anniversary of the Hanoi Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2016).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Ngo Van Quy said Hanoi is home to 1,350 villages craft villages, of which 277 villages are recognised as traditional villages, such as: Bat Trang ceramics, Van Phuc silk, Phu Vinh rattan and Ha Thai lacquer.
These villages are abundant and excellent tourism resources that Hanoi city should focus on investing in the coming time, the Vice Chairman noted.
In the recent years, the city has made efforts in the conservation, exploitation and promotion of tangible and intangible values to develop its socio-economy in general and tourism sector in particular.
Specially, under the municipal Party's Resolution No. 06 to develop tourism for 2016-2020 period, the city has a policy of planning, conservating and turning traditional craft villages of Bat Trang pottery and Van Phuc silk into attractive destinations meeting national and international standards.
The festival aims to introduce traditional culture of Thang Long – Hanoi and contribute to preserving, honouring and developing traditional crafts.
The event also makes a chance to promote tourism potential of the traditional craft villages and connect travel firms with the villages.
Themed “Hanoi - Quintessence of Vietnam's traditional crafts”, this year's festival is expected to bring much exciting experience to local residents and visitors.
The festival area will be divided into several main sections to display the craft village space and art installations featuring traditional handicraft products, demonstrate the process of making traditional craft items, and introduce Hanoi craft villages and enterprises to viewers.
Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Do Dinh Hong said the festival introduces the traditional beauty of Thang Long - Hanoi to local residents, visitors throughout the country and international friends.
At the festival, the area of craft villages is designed to create characteristic cultural imprint of the capital, expressed through unique features from the gate, exhibit booths, as well as cuisine.
The festival will organise a series of activities, including: exhibition; workshop on “Vietnam craft villages in association with tourism development and international integration”; cultural and art activities, making traditional handicraft products and folk games.
In addition to showcasing tourist products from Hanoi’s traditional craft villages, the event will also introduce visitors to Hanoian cuisine.
This year's festival draws the participation of traditional craft villages in Hanoi and many other localities with 250 booths, such as Phu Vinh rattan, Ha Thai lacquer, Quat Dong embroidery and Ngu Xa bronze.
During the festival, visitors can participate in folk games and enjoy special cuisine in three regions of country.
At the event, travel companies will introduce attractive tours on craft villages to visitors with prices reduced by 30%.
The festival is expected to be an ideal destination for tourists to explore the beauty and values of traditional craft villages in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general this weekend.
