Hanoi checks facilities in preparation for SEA Games 31 hosting

For the fast and smooth renovation of the stadiums and indoor sporting arenas, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong stressed that Hanoi needs some support from the Government and relevant ministries and agencies.

Hanoi, as the main host of the SEA Games 31, is urgently examining and preparing plans to renovate the city's sports facilities for the hosting of the Southeast Asian sports games (SEA games) in 2021, Head of Hanoi’s Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong said.

Accordingly, besides some constructions under the management of districts and townships, Hanoi will upgrade nine works for the competitions and ten others for training, caring and incubating athletes for the SEA Games in the coming time, Dong was quoted by Hanoimoi newspaper as saying.

He added that most of the training facilities in Hanoi must be upgraded to meet international standards but the upgrading expenditure must ensure the criteria of austerity. SEA games 21 is the biggest regional sporting events featuring around 40 sports with 400 events.

In addition to the hosting preparation, Hanoi also concurrently builds a list of training facilities for elite athletes and focuses on enhancing their physical training.

For the fast and smooth renovation of the stadiums and indoor sporting arenas, Dong stressed that Hanoi needs some support from the Government and relevant ministries and agencies.

Hanoi needs instructions and consensus from the Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in some issues such as the number of sports and sport events to be held, Van Dong said.

The department will cooperate closely with the Sports Administration to examine all facilities and equipment to ensure all of them will meet the international standards.

“We need support in budget and manpower for the organization of the games because those items are also important to the success of the hosting”, Dong stressed, noting that the success of the event will help promote Hanoi’s images internationally, thereby, attracting more domestic and foreign tourists and investments to the capital.
