Hanoi gets new science, technology and engineering center

Hanoi's new science, technology and engineering center is located in the Technopark building in Gia Lam District, Hanoi.

US-based 3M officially opened its latest science, technology and engineering center in Hanoi on August 13, with Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc and US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper in attendance.

The 417-square-meter center designs interactive tours and experiences that help customers gain a deeper understanding of how 3M's advanced technologies are driving innovative solutions for the future.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc emphasized that the establishment of 3M's center is an important milestone in Vietnam's journey to become a hub for high-tech projects, innovation and global research and development (R&D).

"Vietnam is promoting targeted investments focusing on high-tech initiatives, semiconductors, AI, R&D, renewable energy, and infrastructure growth. These are also important areas where U.S. investors have great potential," she underlined.

The deputy minister conveyed optimism for future practical and fruitful collaboration between the National Innovation Center (NIC) and 3M's Center, leveraging the advantages of each side.

According to US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, 3M is a pioneer in scientific and technological innovations, consistently establishing new benchmarks in the telecommunications and electronics sectors.

He added that the opening of this center in Hanoi reflects the strong and enduring partnership between the US and Vietnam. "This milestone, which marks 3M's 30-year presence in Vietnam, reinforces our commitment to a comprehensive strategic partnership focused on innovation, creativity and technology development with its Vietnamese partners," said Ambassador Knapper.

According to Steven Vander Louw, president of 3M's Electronics Materials Solutions Division, Vietnam is the fastest-growing electronics market in Southeast Asia, with high demand for advanced solutions in consumer electronics, semiconductors, data centers, and industrial automation.

He emphasized that the center's opening is part of 3M's commitment to expanding its operations in the rapidly growing market.

Vander Louw also noted that Vietnam has made significant progress in manufacturing capabilities in consumer electronics, semiconductors, data centers and industrial automation, supporting stronger export-led economic growth.

Over the next two years, the U.S. company plans to invest in advanced testing equipment to meet the rapidly growing market demand in Vietnam, further solidifying its position as a leader in technological innovation.

Earlier, the Group opened its Customer Technical Center in Ho Chi Minh City to showcase innovative solutions and business collaboration opportunities to partner companies across the country.
