Modern fetal medicine recognizes the fetus as a patient and must be treated when suffering diseases. Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital is the first public hospital in Vietnam to carry out interventions in amniotic sac, with all the necessary modern equipment, to save the fetus life.

Earlier, on October 4, in an international standard operating room, the surgical team with leading European professors and the hospital’s doctors successfully carried out two surgeries in amniotic sacs in around 72 hours. Currently, the two pregnant women’s health is good, their fetuses are under treatment.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, director of Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, said that this is a remarkable progress, a very new field, even for the world’s medicine.

This is not only a step forward for obstetrics and gynecological techniques of the hospital and the whole country, but also demonstrates the profound human spirit, Anh added.

He stressed that though this is just a first step, it is the fruit of a whole year of thoughtful preparation of many people including medical staff, technique and operating room workers, among others.
