Hanoi party chief stresses sci-tech role in socio-economic development

Science and technology activities have made important contributions in all fields and increasingly asserted the role of leverage and motivation to promote Hanoi`s socio-economic development.

Science and technology has made great contributions to Hanoi's socio-economic development and should be boosted further to help Hanoi maintain its leading paper in the country's growth, Secretary of the municiapl Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai has said.

Many remarkable scientific research projects have been transferred and applied into practice, bringing about positive results, contributing to improving productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of Hanoi's economy, Hai said at a meeting with the Department of Science and Technology, the government portal reported.
He asked the Department of Science and Technology to make efforts to fulfill the targets of socio-economic growth, promote science and technology applications in the economy.
Besides, it is necessary to link science and technology activities with practical requirements, especially with the needs of enterprises, taking enterprises as a center for scientific development, applying more research results to management, production and business activities, Hai noted.
For his part, Director of the Hanoi’s Department of Science and Technology Le Ngoc Anh said that science and technology activities have made important contributions in all fields and increasingly asserted the role of leverage and motivation to promote the capital’s socio-economic development. The results of Hanoi's science and technology activities were appreciated by the Ministry of Science and Technology and other provinces and cities.
Hanoi is the leading locality in the country in proposing scientific research projects and appraising the non-budgeted research tasks (seven tasks and products resulted from the tasks were commercialized). The capital ranks first in the country in terms of the number of investment projects with technology appraisal (27 projects in 2018), number of certificates granted to science and technology organizations (566).
The city also takes the lead in the number of management agencies and units supported to build and apply the quality management system according to ISO 9001: 2008, the number of enterprises supported to apply ISO 14000 on the environment and ISO 22000 on food safety (237 enterprises). Hanoi ranks second in number of science and technology enterprises granted quality certificates (47/386 enterprises nationwide).
The capital currently ranks second in the country in terms of the number of applications submitted by organizations and individuals for patents, utility solutions, industrial designs and trademarks (12,422 applications in 2018). In particular, Hanoi leads the country in the number of patents (99), useful solutions (150) and ranks second in the number of industrial designs (278), trademarks (4,315).
