Hanoi records positive changes in urban planning and management

Hanoi's projects on urban technical infrastructure have been carried out coherently in the order of priority and urgency.

In the 2015-2020 period, urban management and infrastructure development in Hanoi city has recorded positive changes, Kinhtedothi.vn quoted a leader of the municipal Department of Planning and Architecture as saying at a meeting on May 25.

Projects on urban technical infrastructure have been carried out coherently in the order of priority and urgency, which helps increase the effectiveness of investment, contributes to raising the quality of urban services and improves local residents’ living environment.

Over the past five years, the municipal Department of Construction has succeeded in managing and developing urban technical infrastructure. Notably, construction of water purifiers has been sped up and the supply of tap water has been ensured, according to reports presented at the meeting.

Thanks to these efforts, 100% of Hanoi’s urban population has access to safe water. By the end of 2019, more projects on expanding the water supply network were executed with the view of increasing the proportion of rural people having access to clean water in accordance with the Ministry of Health's standards to 75%.

Environmental sanitation has also been strengthened on streets and residential areas. All domestic waste in urban areas and 90% in rural areas have been collected and treated. The project of building waste incinerators with the handling capacity of 4,000 tons/day in Hanoi’s Soc Son district will soon be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Besides, the management and maintenance of trees, parks, flower gardens and lawns have been enhanced with the support modern technology.

In 2018, Hanoi completed its goal of planting one million trees two years ahead of schedule. The municipal government plans to plant an additional 600,000 trees in 2019 and 2020.

The rate of construction works with permits increased to 96.93% in 2019. The time for processing construction permit application has been cut to within 15 days (while time stipulated by the Construction Law is 30 days).
