Chung appreciated the UK’s education and training system and hoped to expand cooperation with the European country in the field, adding that Hanoi is planning to make foreign languages, mainly English language, and Informatics, compulsory subjects at all schools.

Hanoi is facing difficulties due to low English proficiency of many teachers, thus Chung expressed his hope that the city will be supported by the UK to build a standard foreign language training program for teachers.

This will be the basis for Hanoi city to successfully realize its foreign language universalization program, with a view to becoming a smart city or a startup and creative city in the international integration, Chung stressed.

He said that Hanoi has piloted Cambridge’s diploma program at Chu Van An High School and is expected to replicate the program at other schools in the time ahead.

The number of Hanoi students in the UK has been increasing over the years, Chung noted, adding that Hanoi looks to boost cooperation with UK schools to train English for teachers, with a view to universalizing English in the period of 2025-2030.

For his part, Ed Vaizey showed his impression on Hanoi’s economic growth, saying that the UK has been interested in cooperation in research and education and training investment with countries around the world, including Vietnam.

He hoped that the UK would have more opportunities to set up education-training partnerships and open more schools in Hanoi and Vietnam.

Ed Vaizey stressed that as one of the countries with the oldest education system in the world, the UK can share its experience with Vietnam and Hanoi in operating international standard schools.

Echoing Chung, Ed Vaizey pledged to find the best schools so that Hanoi students can receive high-quality education, and believed in the effective cooperation in the capital city.
