Hanoians huddle against first cold spell of winter when going out

Hanoians have to don extra jackets and bundle up against the biting cold.

The first cold spell of this year’s winter hit northern Vietnam on December 1, including Hanoi. Temperatures in the capital city drop to around 18-19 degrees Celsius by day and 15-16 degrees Celsius by night.

Nguyen Van Huong, head of the Weather Forecasting Department under the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, said this is the first major cold wave in the north in the winter of 2022-23.

Hanoians have to don extra jackets and bundle up against the biting cold.

Motorcycle riders bundle up with masks, hats, mufflers, and coats to keep out the wind chill.

Children are dressed up with face masks, hats, and thick jackets.

Raincoats become “winter coats” for an old woman and her niece.

Raincoats are not only water resistant but also windproof.

Jackets are indispensable on cold days. Many people choose wool scarves to prevent coldness.

Caps are popular among the elderly to keep their heads warm.

Students huddle against the cold wind at bus stops.

The National Meteorological Forecasting Center predicts that temperatures in Hanoi will rise to over 22 degrees Celsius on Friday, then jump to 30 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
