Korean calligraphy works to be on display in Hanoi

The history of developing the Korean alphabet and calligraphic works will be presented at the Hangeul (Korean Alphabet) Exhibition in Hanoi.

The exhibition Hangeul, introducing the history and art of Korean calligraphy, will take place from July 15 to August 9 at the National Library of Vietnam, 31 Trang Thi Street, Hanoi.

This is the first exhibition of Korean script in Vietnam, held by the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam and the National Hangeul Museum of South Korea, with the aim of helping the public have a more insightful view of the value of the Korean language.

In addition to introductory videos on the principles and philosophy of creating Hangeul, the exhibition also features 11 works, including videos, fashion products, fine arts, household items, and graphics that reflect the transformation of the Korean language in modern times.

Through the use of sophisticated modern calligraphy techniques, visitors can feel the beauty of Hangeul and create their own calligraphic works.

Choi Young-sam, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam, said there are now about 60 universities in Vietnam that have established Korean language departments. This proves great interest in learning and studying Korean in Vietnam. The ambassador hopes this exhibition will be a good opportunity to introduce the beauty and science of Hangeul to the Vietnamese people.

The program will help participants understand the beauty of Hangeul calligraphy.

On July 15, the National Hangeul Museum of South Korea and the National Library of Vietnam will sign a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation programs and exchange of academic documents, coordinate events and exhibitions to promote the culture of both sides (especially written culture and documentary heritage), exchange expertise and develop professional skills (especially in the field of preservation), and exchange experts to promote cooperative activities and develop professional capacity of both sides.

"We expect that through the cooperation agreement with the National Library of Vietnam, this will be an opportunity for the two institutions to understand each other's culture through active exchange and cooperation," said Kim Il-hwan, Director of the National Hangeul Museum.
