LEGO opens green factory in Vietnam
The new manufacturing hub marks progress in Vietnam’s push for green growth, advanced industry, and global investment partnerships.
THE HANOI TIMES — Denmark-based LEGO Group inaugurated an eco-friendly manufacturing plant in the southern province of Binh Duong on April 9, marking an important milestone in the company's global expansion and sustainability efforts.
LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam with the investment cost of US$1.3 billion is the company’s sixth factory worldwide and second in Asia. Designed to support long-term growth in the Asia-Pacific region, the site is the most environmentally sustainable factory ever built by the LEGO Group.

Speaking at the grand opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh praised LEGO as a globally renowned toy brand and a symbol of creativity, innovation, and sustainable development.
He appreciated the company's commitment to green manufacturing and reducing carbon emissions. "The factory is not only a manufacturing site, but also a source of creative inspiration for children in Vietnam and around the world. It is a model that promotes economic growth while protecting the environment," said Chinh.
The Danish toy maker began construction on its 44-hectare factory in November 2022. The site, which will run entirely on renewable energy by early 2026, already has 12,400 rooftop solar panels and is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs.
In addition, the group also announced a strategic agreement with the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) to build an adjacent energy center that will house Vietnam's first large-scale battery storage system, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. Additional energy needs will be met through power purchase agreements.
The factory includes the company’s first buildings to receive LEED Platinum certification, a globally recognized benchmark for green construction. Both the administrative building and the children’s play pavilion achieved Platinum status, while the production areas, including molding, packaging, and warehousing, earned LEED Gold certification.
LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam is also the first factory in the company's network to use only paper-based pre-packaging.
“Today marks an exciting milestone for us as we proudly open our sixth factory in the world,” said Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of the LEGO Group. “This state-of-the-art site reflects our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation, bringing more LEGO play experiences to children and fans in the Asia-Pacific region through increased manufacturing capacity.”
As part of its broader regional strategy, the group will open a new distribution center in the southern province of Dong Nai later this year. The facility, which is already operational, will be managed by Kuehne und Nagel and will serve as LEGO's second distribution hub in Asia.
In 2023, LEGO’s flagship store in Vietnam opened at the Takashimaya shopping mall in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. It is expected to become a new destination for fun and experiences for Vietnamese children.
