MoIT suggests the US to adjust its tariffs on Vietnam's catfish

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on March 19 issued a press release circulating around the US Department of Commerce (DOC) that announced the final conclusion on the 13th administrative review of anti-dumping measures on Vietnam`s catfish.

Previously, March 15, the DOC issued the final conclusions of the 13th administrative review (POR 13) of anti-dumping measures on Vietnam's catfish (review period from August 1, 2015 to July 3, 2016).

Based on this conclusion, Vietnamese catfish exporters will be subject to anti-dumping tariffs of US $2.39 / kg - US $7.74 / kg for the above-mentioned review period. These are very high tariffs and will have a huge impact on Vietnam's catfish exports to the US.

The MoIT has been working closely with Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and Vietnamese exporters to exchange information and raise their opinions with the authorities of the US.

During the review process, Vietnamese firms have made concerted efforts to provide information to the DOC, but unfortunately the DOC has decided to use the available adverse data (AFA) to determine the final tax rate.

At the same time, the DOC also changed its investigation practices when applying very high AFA tax rates to many Vietnamese exporters.

The MoIT believes that the US tax rate is not objective. It suggested that the US should review and adjust the tariffs for Vietnamese related companies on the principle of objectivity, compliance with WTO rules, fairness for all related parties.

The MoIT will continue to cooperate with related ministries, sectors, VASEP and Vietnamese catfish exporters, discussing all processing options to ensure the legitimate interests of Vietnam's enterprises.
