Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko shared the view with local press on June 18, ahead of the upcoming visit of President Vladimir Putin to Vietnam.

“There is immense potential for further strengthening and diversifying bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Russia,” said the Russian Ambassador.

He revealed that President Putin's delegation to Vietnam will include federal and regional leaders, as well as major Russian businesses. This state visit, the highest level of diplomatic engagement, marks President Putin's fifth visit to Vietnam and underscores the long tradition of cooperation between the two nations, he noted.

Ambassador Bezdetko emphasized that the cooperation is rooted in an unchanging tradition of friendship, mutual support, and shared benefits established by previous generations and aimed solely at ensuring the happiness and prosperity of both peoples.

“Russia is keen to continue close and effective cooperation in various sectors, including energy, industrial production, science and technology, education and training, defense and security, trade, and investment,” said Bezdetko.

He also underlined  Russia's commitment to combating climate change and ensuring a just energy transition and confirmed that Russia can collaborate with Vietnam in the realm of clean energy and decarbonization of the economy.

"Russia, a global leader in this field, is ready to provide Vietnam with the most advanced, reliable, and stable clean energy technologies, particularly nuclear power. This solution is being chosen by many Asian countries to replace traditional energy sources," he stated.

The Ambassador noted that Vietnam and Russia are actively collaborating in education, particularly higher education, with the establishment of a consortium of technical universities to expand training opportunities in high-tech fields, IT, energy, and aviation. "Russia offers Vietnam the largest quota of free education with 1,000 scholarships," he said.

In terms of political cooperation, Ambassador Bezdetko expressed Russia's readiness to work closely with Vietnam on the international stage, especially at the United Nations and within ASEAN-centered frameworks, upholding the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, legitimacy, and justice in international relations.

President Putin's visit, scheduled for June 19-20, coincides with the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Principles of Friendly Relations between Russia and Vietnam. This treaty has significantly expanded bilateral relations, laid the groundwork for the development and implementation of major joint projects and initiatives across various fields, and marked a new phase in the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

President Putin has frequently underlined the close ties between Russia and Vietnam over the decades. Both nations share a rich common history, extensive cooperation across most sectors, a deep political dialogue, dynamic cultural exchanges, and similar values and development orientations.

"All these factors provide a reliable foundation for further developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia," Bezdetko concluded.

In a recent interview, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi stated that President Putin's visit reflects Vietnam's active implementation of an independent, self-reliant foreign policy of diversification and multilateralization, serving national interests and contributing to global peace and stability.

"President Putin's visit to Vietnam also sends a strong message of mutual respect between the two countries. It is a clear expression of friendship and solidarity, enhancing the international standing of both nations for the mutual benefit of their peoples and for regional and global peace and stability," Ambassador Khoi said.
