Supporting Intellectual rights overseas for Vietnamese enterprises

According to the Vietnam Intellectual Property Association (VIPA), during the global integration, intellectual property (IP) has a massive impact toward enterprises development.

On October 24 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with VIPA and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have held the seminar on “The Protection of Intellectual Rights Overseas for Vietnamese Businesses”. The event is aimed to provide knowledge and international regulations with regard to IP protection for Vietnamese businesses, so that they can choose appropriate measures to protect their IP. During the global integration, IP has a massive impact toward enterprises development. However, this issue has not been received sufficient attention from enterprises. As such, it is necessary to raise awareness in IP protection for Vietnamese enterprises, as IP protection means to protect their assets for the sustainable development of enterprises.

At present, VIPA has been focusing on supporting members of association with knowledge on IP, the way of using software efficiently and legally, as well as IP valuation. As such, enterprises can take advantages of their IP and ensure the absolute benefits of enterprises to their IP. On the other hand, representative of VCCI stated, the industrial revolution 4.0 is requiring products and brands to have high level of investment. As such, IP is an important component to make up a product’s value of enterprises. In the current global context, the global value chain is often related to export. An export enterprise should in first hand to have sufficient understandings with regard to e-commerce and regulations to take part in the global value chain. However, it is more complicated with regard to IP and the protection of IP. In the opposite way, a foreign company coming to Vietnam for investment always have in their hand the law to protect their IPs.

With this being said, Vietnamese enterprises should pay more attention to protect their IP when planning strategy for exporting their products to international markets.
