Thousands of medical staff and students sign up to help Bac Giang

Rapid transmission of Covid-19 in Vietnam’s northern province of Bac Giang makes testing and isolation a vital task.

Around 24,000 medical workers and students in Hanoi have volunteered for disease prevention work in the northern province of Bac Giang.

They have been echoing Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long’s call on human resources’ support for the coronavirus hotspot of Bac Giang on May 27 morning.

“The Covid-19 disease evolution in Bac Giang is very complicated and unpredictable, requiring the health sector to make all effort to carry out quick and effective pandemic prevention and control activities. Therefore, medical staffs and students need to be well trained to prevent cross-infection," said the minister.

He emphasized that the health sector will provide the maximum support to Bac Giang because failure to control the new coronavirus in the province will result in defeat in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than 10 units have been supporting testing and contact tracing in the two provinces, including leading hospitals like Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho Ray Hospital, Military Hospital, Institute of Epidemiology, Nha Trang-based Institute of Pasteur, and nearly 500 army men, among others.

Two thousand medical workers and students from 15 universities and colleges of medicine and pharmacy have been participating in the pandemic prevention in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long has decided to award certificates of merit to 398 individuals who are medical staff and students for their great contribution to supporting the Covid-19 prevention and control in the two provinces.

At the time of writing, Bac Giang still leads infected localities in the number of coronavirus carriers with 1,564. The number of people undergoing both centralized and home quarantine was nearly 82,000. Six out of nine districts in the province have been put under lockdown so far.
